Meanwhile work is busy as usual. I leave Tuesday to go to Toronto before I head to vegas on Thursday. Then this weekend is all InterOpNet before the show the following week. I’ll get pics up of Toronto and Vegas up soon.

Not much of a post this time, but I jut found out that my email hasn’t been working. I’m not sure when it stopped working, but I fixed the problems and I can receive email again. oh happy day <g>. I even addedthis email account to my blackberry, though I may change that if I start getting too much spam.
So I’m back in Boston again, and majorly jet-lagged. I’m leaving for Toronto next week before I head to Las Vegas for InterOp. If you’re around, feel free to stop by the NOC. I’ll be the guy who is either majorly stressed and trying to locate people on the network, or the guy who is doing nothing because we built our network bulletproof. only time will tell…
oh. also, Forbidden Kingdom opens tomorrow.
Sorry I haven’t been around for much of the past month. My company is providing the infrastructure and security for InterOp Net, the network of the InterOp trade show which is one of the largest networking trade shows around. For the geeks of you out there, we have our own public class A network, which means we own 1/255 of all the public IPs in the world. So I’ve been here for the past few weeks, working 12-14 hour days getting this network set up. My company is lending several million dollars worth of equipment to this show, and we’re only one of several vendors. Thats how big this show is.
I’m back in the San Fransisco bay area in Belmont, CA. We’re basically working out of a huge warehouse setting up the network. We’re even working on weekends; I’m actually in the warehouse right now, because we’ve finished with most of the network. so I decided to get online, write up a post and throw up some pictures. This is my company’s first time to this show, but I’ve been told from several people who’ve been at past shows, that this is the most technologically advanced network primarily thanks to the security tools and visibility my company is bringing to the network. People seem excited to see how this will go, and I am too. At the show itself, I’ll be working in the NOC (Network Operations Center), so stay tuned and I’ll bring some pictures back. Meanwhile, the live feed of hotstage is available for viewing. you may even be able to see me on the camera if you look hard enough (and I’m in the warehouse). we have two webcams. Webcam 1 and Webcam 2. no guarantees on how long these links will be active.
While I was out here, I was able to go to the Berkeley Chinese Martial Arts Tournament, which is basically the Wushu nationals. I saw a lot of stuff and took a bunch of video, and will probably put it up here when I have time (which at this rate will be in several years).

So when I left Boston to go to California last week, it was 9 degrees and there was 4 fresh inches of snow on the ground. The taxi on he way to the airport broke down and I had to get a second cab. Then apparently when I’m in Cali, the snow melts and it’s 50 degrees here. I flew back yesterday night, and the temperature is back in the 20s and we just had 10 inches of snow fall today!
But such is life in Boston. I’m headed for Toronto for a day next week, so I’ll see if there’s anything to take a picture of. Meanwhile my friend Nicole (Hi Nicole!) rocks so much, she told me about this “meet friends” kinda site and I figured I’d join. (it helped when she sent me a link to a “cute girl” but I had to register to look at profiles). Anyways, I joined it. This is the first time I bothered with one of these kinds of sites, but it’s mostly asian apparently, so thats good.
Anyway here are a few random pics I took in Japan. I was going through all my old pics looking for pics of myself and found these and figured I’d share. I’m also including some more nature-oriented pics i took in San Fran.
I was really lucky and was able to spend a weekend in San Francisco. My company sent me out here for a few days, and I’m supposed to be in Orange County the following week, so I was able to spend the weekend hanging out with my friend Malachi in San Francisco. My buddy moved out here after he graduated from school, and I called him up and he let me crash at his place for the weekend. Even though he was really busy, he took the time to walk with me and play tourist in the city. I used my new camera and took a ton of pictures. I used the panoramic function to take some larger pics that I was able to put together with the software that was included with the camera.

I got the new version of Pop’n Music for my Japanese PS2. When I was in Japan, I really got into this game called Pop’n Music. at that time Pop’n Music Fever (14) was in arcades. I played so much that I ended up buying the controller and the games to practice on. Now that I’m back in the US, I play it on my PS2. I also bought a new camera, a Canon SD750. It seems pretty cool, and I’m going to San Fransisco for a week so I’ll take pics and see how they all turn up.
Since there were no pics in my last post, I’m posting pics of the family dog, Maddie (short for Madelene or however you spell it). I miss her; she’s currently at my mom’s house. My mom was going to let me have her and bring her up here to Mass, but I’m not home all that much, some days I come back really late, and I sometimes get sent on business trips at the last minute, so I’m afraid I won’t be able to take care of her as much as necessary. 
I initially started watching J-TV to help me learn Japanese. Pronunciation, comprehension, speed and colloquialisms, watching TV can help you a lot in learning a language. but after a while I noticed that I watch more Japanese TV shows than I do American TV shows. Part of that I think, is the content. All most Americans know of Japanese TV shows is what they import and overdub, like those crazy game shows and Iron Chef. And in some way those are true; Japanese TV is a combination of the Food Network and game shows. However, what is shown in America is the extreme. Read the rest of this entry »

This week has been crazy busy. I was in New Jersey this week for work, and that didn’t go so well, but I was able to see a friend of mine that I haven’t seen in a few years. We hung out a bunch 8 years ago now, and then life took over. But we met up in NYC and had dinner which was cool.
Anyway the pictures this time are….. Raamen! I do miss good raamen that you can find almost anywhere in Japan. Here in Boston there are 2 places which serve ok raamen, Sapporo Raamen in Porter Exchange, Cambride, and Ken Raamen, in the Super 88 in Alston. So raamen and some random pictures I found amusing on my Kyoto/Osaka/Nara trip last year. ラーメンはおいしいそう。。。
超すみませんでした! Sorry I’ve been gone so long. But I’m sure not that many people actually visit this page, so no one probably missed me. but I got back from Japan a year ago exactly. And since I’ve been back a lot of stuff has happened. Let’s see…. a brief recap: I graduated from college (finally), moved, got a great job, and have been keeping busy working. I’m a pre-sales systems engineer specializing in network security working for a leading networking company.
I do really love my job, however I miss being in Japan. I’ve been talking to my boss, and I think he knows I’d love to move back. One of the things they mentioned when I was hired on is that I may be relocated, which I don’t mind as long as it’s somewhere I’d actually want to live (aka Alaska is out of the question). My current top choices (in no specific order) are San Fransisco, Vancouver, back to Tokyo, and possibly Seattle. As far as the likelihood that I might move to one of those places, well… your guess is as good as mine.
I’ve been training since I’ve been back, and hopefully soon I’ll get some good pictures for everyone to see. So meanwhile I’ll post some I have lying around of my side trip to Kyoto. Osaka and Nara pics are coming.
